Polymet Mining Corp.http://www.polymetmining.comPolyMet Mining’s project is a proposed open pit mining development that would extract copper, nickel, cobalt, palladium, platinum, and gold. PolyMet’s NorthMet ore body is located in the center of a known polymetallic deposit on the northwestern portion of the Duluth Complex, an arc-shaped intrusion in northeastern Minnesota. Non-ferrous minerals in the area in the 1940s were first discovered near Ely. The NorthMet deposit was discovered and explored in the 1960s by U.S. Steel. The polymetallics deposits of the Duluth Complex are generally believed to hold the third largest nickel deposit in the world. Development would create hundreds of new permanent jobs, construction jobs and stimulate positive economic spin-off.
